Aims:
This module aims to explore many of the issues that need to be addressed when designing for the screen and to gain experience of the procedures that can be used during the development of material (formative evaluations) and following implementation (summative evaluations). It also aims to provide students with an understanding of general principles related to designing interactive documents.

Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module students should be able to:

  • systematically analyse electronic documents
  • write and edit for screen
  • create prototypes
  • plan and execute testing

  • Additional outcomes:
    The module should also provide experience on how to present work to others.

    Outline content:
    The issues addressed within the project will include:

  • analysis of electronic documents
  • navigation
  • structuring material
  • development of prototypes
  • testing procedures

  • Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
    The project will start with a briefing session. There will then be fortnightly sessions to introduce and discuss issues, provide interim criticism and workshops on practical implementation. Final feedback is given through a plenary session.

    Assessment:
    Coursework:
    At the end of the Autumn term a report on the preparatory work (analyses and planning) will constitute 25% of the coursework assessment. Submission of the completed project at the end of the Spring term will constitute the remaining 75%. The convenor will assign a mark at the end of the module which will be moderated.

    Relative percentage of coursework: 100%

    Penalties for late submission
    Penalties for the late submission of coursework will be in accordance with University policy.

    Requirements for a pass
    A mark of 40% overall.

    Reassessment arrangements
    Resubmission of a body of practical work by 1 September.
