Aims:

Outline content:
Information on playwork policies and local and national strategies. Relevant legislation, frameworks and regulations relating to planning, implementing and reviewing play environments. Analysing and evaluating significant and emerging theories of child development, models and definitions of play. Monitoring and recording children’s play opportunities. Models of intervention in playwork practice Reviewing best practice for play opportunities and environments. Evaluating the play environment and play opportunities – identifying weaknesses and gaps. Evaluating your own effectiveness within the play environment. Creative solutions to problems. Criteria to assess work-based practice

Brief description of teaching
and learning methods:
A range of college based seminars, presentations, and on-line learning. Complementary setting based tasks, independent activities and directed tasks will contribute to the achievement of the intended learning outcomes. These will link to work based tasks and independent activities. Work – based learning will provide an essential contribution to achievement of the outcomes. |

Coursework Provide a plan for a current work- based activity; critically consider health, safety and other statutory issues. Evaluate the activity’s effectiveness with reference to specific children and recommend future action. (40%)
Plan, implement and evaluate a new activity in the work place (50%)
Evidence of working at pass level in work-place (10%)
