Aims:
This module aims to examine critically how social policy is used to promote social welfare in the UK , with particular regard to education , health , criminal justice , housing , welfare benefits and social care |
Assessable learning outcomes:
At the end of this module the student will be able to : 1. identify the major structures and processes of social policy making in the UK. 2. to analyse the ways in which social policy has evolved in the areas of education, health, criminal justice, housing, welfare benefits and social care. 3. to assess whether particular education, health, criminal justice, housing, welfare benefits and social care policies have promoted social welfare. |

social policy and social welfare systems social policy and the political process the production, organisation, consumption and distribution of welfare state welfare; private welfare; the voluntary sector; the informal sector managing and delivering welfare; paying for welfare work, employment and the production of welfare the family and the production of welfare professions, bureaucracy and social welfare issues in education, health, criminal justice, housing, welfare benefits and social care policy user perspectives: particular groups ( children, young people, older people, disabled people) service based - education, health care, housing, personal social services and community care |
