Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of this module it is expected that the student will be able to:

  • identify the sources and administrative structure of English planning law;
  • display an understanding of the role of the Secretary of State and the local planning authority in English planning law;
  • exhibit knowledge of some fundamental legal rules and an ability to deploy these rules in solving simple planning issues;
  • understand key legal definition of development; &
  • identify when to apply specific regulations (namely Environmental Impact Assessments, Listed Building Controls or permitted development provisions)

  • Additional outcomes:
    To provide students with an introduction to the broad legal structures which frame the English planning system.
