Aims:
This module provides a continuing focus of teaching and learning in the areas of project management and professionalism including social, legal and ethical aspects of information technology. Organisational, presentational and research skill will also be addressed, including where appropriate study skills. It provides supporting skills for the Work-based Project. Transferable skills and qualities needed by ICT professionals will be incorporated. |
Assessable learning outcomes:
The ability to explain different approaches to project management; and to evaluate the suitability of an approach in a given situation. Critically evaluate different approaches to quality control. Understand the relevant statute laws that impact on ICT professionals. An awareness of external factors that may affect the work of ICT professionals. The ability to undertake a critical analysis of the application of professional standards, codes of conduct and relevant legislation in the work place. An understanding of the limits of their knowledge in the areas of: legal, social, ethical and professional issues. |
Additional outcomes:
Generate appropriate questions in the pursuit of knowledge required to complete their analysis of a problem area. Research areas of relevance to the degree program, using selectively library and on line resources. Critically evaluate the validity and implications of information relevant to their program of study. Provide full acknowledgement of sources of information, as needed for the respect of intellectual property rights. Acquire information by the use of interviews and questionnaires Interpret and display simple numerical data. Create clear written reports and well-structured oral presentations appropriate for a specific audience. Integrate text based and simple graphical information into reports and web pages. Critically review his or her experience and effectiveness of working in a team. Evaluate own work and that of other students Monitor, reflect and report on the development of his or her key skills. |
Outline content:
Content will be tailored to individual students needs in co-ordination with their employer. Students will be encouraged to join the relevant professional body (the British Computer Society) and to attend local meetings. |

Assessment:
The term offered will depend on the partner college Assessment: Assessment will be through: * Continual assessment tests * Final Exam * Submission of a Report Coursework The report will where possible be related to the work place. Relative percentage of coursework : 50% Penalties for late submission Penalties for late submission of course work will be in accordance with University policy. Examinations 1 * 1½ hours examination Requirements for a pass Pass in exam and coursework Reassessment arrangements Resubmission of coursework and/or retake examination. |
