Aims:
To gain insight and knowledge into an aspect of Primary Education (for non-QTS the area for research will be related to their placement) To develop research skills including analysis of primary evidence To strengthen effective writing skills

Outline content:
Students follow a brief course on research methods followed by individual work in conjunction with a tutor developing their own research and reporting skills.
Nature of educational research Research design, qualitative, quantitative and case study approaches Reporting a research enquiry
Students will develop analytical skills informed through critical reading, discussion and their previous experience of work placements. They will also develop written communication skills through the structuring and presentation of the dissertation.

and learning methods:
There will be a taught course using lectures, discussions and workshops. Students own research will be developed through individual tutorials, including independent reading and research. |

Coursework: A dissertation on a topic chosen in consultation with a tutor.
