Aims:
To enable candidates to apply the theoretical components of the Post Experience Diploma in Education [health and social care] to a range of practice settings and successfully carry out the role of practice teacher. |
Assessable learning outcomes:
Plan and implement appropriate programmes of learning for students
Assist students to formulate appropriate learning outcomes and facilitate learning opportunities through negotiation with the students and other agencies
Teach the skills of their specialist area by example, discussion and analysis of situations in practice
Organize and provide a supportive learning environment and evaluate its effectiveness

Identify any aspects of a student’s work which may require remedial counselling and/ or further practice, and implement an appropriate plan |
Outline content:
This module is work based with discussion groups and planned seminars interspersed for students to address and critically discuss issues of practice teaching. This module MUST be taken alongside the co requisite modules.

Brief description of teaching
and learning methods:
Support will be provided through group work and individual tutorials. Candidates will have the opportunity for critical discussion on a range of issues. In teaching practice the candidate will be supported by a University approved supervisor/assessor who may utilise a range of methods/strategies for teaching and supporting the probationer in developing their practice |

Coursework
Through portfolio to include the following:
Learning contract Learning environment audit and critical appraisal Direct observation of teaching Interim and final report from supervisor/assessor 250 hours of assessed teaching practice (the contents of which will be specified by the school and will reflect the candidate’s area of practice and the requirements of relevant professional bodies e.g. NMC, GSCC).

Requirements for a pass
Students must include all elements of the portfolio demonstrating attainment of the learning outcomes. The portfolio is marked on a pass/ fail basis.
Reassessment arrangements
Students who fail or fail to achieve a qualifying mark in a module will normally have the right to be reassessed in the module on one occasion at a time to be determined within the normal duration of the programme. A re-sit fee is likely to be charged.
Where the supervisor recommends a period of extended practice this will be discussed with the programme leader, student and students employing authority before a decision is reached.
