Aims:
This module will give students an understanding of the nature of Internet activities from practical, technical, economic and strategic aspects. It will equip students to participate in the basic practical activities of setting up an internet site and to understand the issues involved in its operation. It will also make students aware of the wider economic and social implication of the Internet.

Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module, it is expected that students will be able to:

  • identify the importance of the Internet
  • recognise issues related to internet development
  • demonstrate the use of Internet technologies
  • research and evaluate an wide range of existing web sites options
  • design and produce a basic web site and specify the off-line activities that would support it.

  • Additional outcomes:
    Students may be able to take professional qualifications such as:
    Microsoft 1912: Introduction to Web Development Technologies

    Outline content:

  • identify the importance of the Internet
  • recognise issues related to Internet development
  • demonstrate use of Internet technologies
  • research and evaluate a wide range of existing web site options
  • design and produce a basic web site and specify the off-line activities that would support it

  • Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
    The student will learn from a combination of on line materials, group lab work, and formal tutor input.
