Outline content:
Students will have the opportunity in this unit of developing their creative skills and, through writing in a variety of forms, of deepening their understanding of literary techniques and linguistic features explored in other units. There will be discussion and analysis of models of writing in each of the forms used, but priority will be given to practical writing activities. The importance of students' editing and revision of work will be emphasised throughout. Students will also be encouraged to reflect on how craft and creativity can be stimulated in children's writing through the application of techniques used during the unit. The unit begins with an introductory writing workshop and then moves on to consider different forms of prose, poetry and dramatic writing. At the end of the unit, a group anthology of writing is published which is selected and edited by students.
