Aims:
To:

  • Develop team management skills
  • Appraise TA team strengths and needs and to seek training opportunities to widen skills base to provide quality learning support for pupils and teachers
  • Plan intervention programmes to raise standards of pupil achievement using a variety of teaching and learning methods and strategies
  • Analyse welfare needs of pupils and provide appropriate support
  • Support TA team in promoting school policies, procedures and practices as they support pupils, teachers and school

  • Assessable learning outcomes:

  • Application of team leadership skills to implement appraisals
  • Production of plans for the delivery of intervention programmes to demonstrate ability to use a wide range of teaching and learning methods and strategies
  • Description of welfare needs applicable to age of pupils with whom the TA works and another age range
  • Analysis of support requirements to promote welfare needs of pupils

  • Additional outcomes:
    Application of school policies, procedures and practices. Theories of individual learning styles, group management and principles of appraisals. Appropriate methods of teaching that support attainment of individual and group learning objectives. Production or modification of plans to achieve desirable learning outcomes. Comparison of welfare needs for a range of ages.

    Outline content:
    This module will focus on the use of best practice to enable Teaching Assistants working at higher level to complement and support the work of the teacher; substantially contribute to a range of teaching and learning activities and to work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a professional team to support the pupils’ learning and development. It will provide criteria to be used as evidence of working at pass level in work place.

    Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
    Lectures, presentations, seminars, group discussion, research. Work – based learning will provide an essential contribution to achievement of the outcomes.

    Production of an information pamphlet for the use of new TAs entering the school (40%)
    Annotated, referenced plan for the delivery of an intervention programme in the workplace (40 %)
