Aims:
To enable students to use the tools of assessment and evaluation to develop and implement specific plans and activities to meet individual learning and development needs of children by:
Identification of specific methods and procedures for carrying out observations Recognition of the strengths and weaknesses of assessment methods Contributing to quality assurance and personal professional development through assessment and evaluation of children’s learning and development Improving resources and procedures as an evaluation Reporting outcomes of assessment to the practitioner

Assessable learning outcomes:
Evaluation of specific plans and activities to meet individual needs of children Assess children’s progress, using effective methods appropriate to the objectives, age of the child and environment Critically evaluate a range of assessment methods in relation to the enhancement of personal, social, emotional and educational development of children Identify appropriate reporting procedures, according to the audience

Reflection and adapted practice in the workplace, in relation to assessment and evaluation strategies. Giving feedback and collaborative planning. |
Outline content:
Module will focus on the importance of assessment and evaluation in raising standards in education, informal and formal assessment, types of assessment, the evaluation procedure, methods of giving feedback and planning to meet desirable learning outcomes of children. Criteria to assess work-based practice |
