Aims:
This module draws on the theoretical issues and practical skills developed in the critical modules of the degree. The module aims: to give students insight into the processes of theatre practice as research; to develop students' production competencies by active participation in the Bulmershe Production; to develop an understanding of the way in which creative processes relate to theoretical debates; to extend skills of performance analysis by relating critical and theoretical issues to theatrical practice.

Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module students will be expected to:
• demonstrate the critical, technical and organisational expertise required to fulfil a defined production role;
• contribute productively to the practical creative process of developing a fully realised performance
• relate practical decisions in theatre to identified theoretical critical and cultural ideas;
• document processes of production;
• evaluate and analyse the outcome of a practical project critically, taking account of research questions, performance decisions, audience reception, levels of critical and creative success.

Additional outcomes:
This module develops in students creative, managerial and organisational skills. The modules enables students to work with staff developing a high level of practice as research and participate in the realisation of complex practical projects, including performances with strong production values. The module extends skills and competencies which are central to the degree: teamwork; oral communication and group co-operation; appropriate deployment of research using printed and electronic resources: critical analysis of visual and written material and coherent argument; presentation of written work using IT.

Outline content:
Students will be given the opportunity to participate in the Bulmershe Production and, subject to auditions and/or appropriate expertise, must obtain a role, technical or performance, before they can opt for the module. Participation is entirely at the discretion of the member of staff directing the Bulmershe Production. Students will undertake their allotted role in the performance, under the direction of the member of staff carrying out the practice as research project. The performance is evaluated by students through written documentation.

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
The teaching is conducted informally through the rehearsal process as defined by the director of the project. Students will not be required to attend all rehearsals but to participate in the process as is appropriate for their role in the performance. A rehearsal schedule will outline the time commitment for any single participant. Students will be inducted into skills as required by the project. Individual tutorials will support students in the development of the documentation.
