Aims:
To synthesise the student's knowledge of biological science in order to produce a managment plan of professional quality for a site of conservation and recreational potential.
Assessable learning outcomes:
The student will be able to work with and understand the requirements of a client seeking professional advice on the managenment of a landscape, to integrate a wide range of knowledge of ecology, soil science and other sciences underpinning landscape management and to produce and present a landscape management plan for a specific site to a professionally competent standard.

Outline content:
There will be a short series of lectures on the landscape profession, landscape management plans and landscape specification. Students will work in groups to prepare and present a management plan.
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
Fieldwork and discussions/workshops will lead to the production of a landscape management report, which will be presented to a client or client group.

Assessment:
Coursework: Assessment will comprise two parts: the preparation (which counts 60% of the assessment mark) and presentation (40%), of the management plan in the last week of term. The mark for the report is a group mark, that for the presentation is for individual achievement.
Relative percentage of coursework: 100%
Penalties of late submission: in accordance with University policy.
Examinations: none
Requirement for a pass: 40%
Reassessment arrangements: an individual submission of a landscape management plan of approximately 5,000 words in September.
