Aims:
This module will enable students to gain a in-depth understanding of a number of advanced issues related to e-business that change the shape of competition, the dynamics of the customer relationship and business networks, and strategic use of ubiquitous technologies. Various approaches for e-business architecture and infrastructure will be introduced in light with customer relationship management, supply chain management, enterprise resource planning as well as business applications integrations.

Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module, it is expected that students will be able to:

  • describe advanced issues related to e-business in organisations
  • appreciate challenges of e-business architecture and infrastructure
  • incorporate business strategies and business processes into e-business architecture
  • apply methodologies to design an e-business system with the defined functions
  • explain the trends driving e-business.

    Additional outcomes:
    The module will also encourage the development of the following skills:

  • self research and problem-solving through participation of student-centred learning guided by the tutor
  • critical analysis on e-business applications.

    Outline content:
    It is expected that students will have knowledge of the following advanced e-business topics:

  • e-business architecture
  • e-business infrastructure, including business and technology components of Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management (SCM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
  • Enterprise Application Integration (EAI)
  • integrating business processes to build CRM, SCM, and ERP
  • knowledge management through web portal
  • e-business systems design

    Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
    This module will be a mixture of lectures on the theoretical aspects of e-business and individual research.

    Assessment:
    This module consists of two components for the assessment:
    Coursework
    This will be a major piece of individual research (30% overall).
    The submission will be staged.
    Examination
    There will be an examination (2 hours). The examination will account for 70% of the marks for this module.
    Requirements for a pass
    Students will be required to obtain an overall mark of 40% based on the coursework and the examination.
    Re-assessment
    Students will be re-examined in August/September.
