Aims:
The aim of this module is to develop a strong understanding of and insight into current professional issues and to extend and refine professional knowledge and skills. The module aims to provide students with an understanding of the changing nature of the knowledge base and modes of delivery in the context of health and education.

Assessable learning outcomes:
•Demonstrate and reflect on clinical processes and procedures at a level commensurate with pre-registration requirements
•Show generic skills in collecting information and synthesis of knowledge and clinical skills
•Identify, outline and integrate the issues within the modern NHS relating to clinical governance and clinical effectiveness into their clinical work
•Synthesise theory and skills to produce generic principles that can be applied to any mode of service delivery

Additional outcomes:
The module also aims to assist students in the critical evaluation of collaborative practice in the clinical and educational contexts and critically evaluate their role as a professional member of the team. Students will develop their oral communication skills and their ability to work and facilitate within a larger group context.

Outline content:
This module develops and builds on knowledge, skills and professional issues developed in the previous years. Emphasis is placed on the synthesis, integration and application of theoretical knowledge to holistic case management. It will look at developing these skills within a number of specialised areas. Professional development and working within the NHS is considered under topics of clinical governance, management and service delivery, evidence-based practice and the role of the RCSLT. The final component addresses career issues, applying for jobs, preparation for interviews and continuing professional development.
