Aims:
To introduce the ideas and methods in the modelling of particle dynamics.

Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module students are expected to be able to:
• formulate and solve appropriate problems in particle dynamics

Outline content:
The course is devoted to the study of particle dynamics arising from Newton's laws of motion.

Assessment:
Coursework Two pieces of assessed work
Relative percentage of coursework : 20%

Penalties for late submission
For pieces of work contributing more than 10%: deduction of 10 marks (out of 100) up to one week after the deadline, thereafter a mark of zero.

Examinations
An exam of one and a half hours. This contributes 80% of the overall assessment.

Requirements for a pass
A mark of 40% overall.

Reassessment arrangements
Re-examination in August/September only.
