Aims:
The overall aim of this module is to facilitate workplace learning with a particular emphasis on structured workplace assessment of practice that will enable student to demonstrate enhanced competence in working in their chosen specialism that is associated with complex decision making and high levels of professional responsibility. This will also include supporting, mentoring, supervising or managing others.


Assessable learning outcomes:
Students will be able:

1. Demonstrate the ability to use reflection and critical analysis to develop and improve own performance, and the performance of professional and inter-professional groups, teams and networks.
2. Demonstrate a substantially enhanced level of competence in a defined area of professional practice in accordance with relevant NOS.
3. Implement the GSCC code of practice in their own practice and practice of others.
4. Demonstrate their ability to achieve outcomes for children and young people in accordance with the principles outlined in the Every Child Maters documents.

Additional outcomes:
Students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate ability to support, mentor, supervise or manage others enabling them to identify and explore issues and improve their own practice.
2. Apply knowledge acquired in taught modules at high specialist level in their own work settings.

Outline content:

Critical appraisal of practice related issues with a particular emphasis on the exploration of complex issues relevant to the chosen specialism. Exploration of links between theory and practice.

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
Workshops, tutorials with personal tutor and individually tailored meetings with practice assessors.

Assessment:
Course work:

A folder with documentation not exceeding 4000 words consisting of student’s reflections as well as feedback from colleagues, direct observation report, practice assessors report and service users feedback when appropriate.

Assessment of practice competence will also feature in the assessment tasks designed for other taught modules.


Relative percentage of coursework: 100%

Penalties for late submission or non-submission: In accordance with University policy.

Examinations: None

Requirements for a pass: Pass confirmed by the Portfolio Assessment Panel.

Reassessment arrangements: Reassessment by 1st September for failed element.
