Aims:
Writing Credit L2 (WCL2) is a piece of assessed written work which allows a student independently to research a set topic and produce an extended essay, after a period of reflection. It allows the School to evaluate a student’s ability to develop an argument, to use and cite legal materials correctly and to do so within a specified number of pages (and to a specific format).
Assessable learning outcomes:
Students will develop skills in terms of identifying and applying research agendas and will work independently, towards the analysis, synthesis, evaluation and critique of their topic.
Additional outcomes:
In addition to those listed in the School’s ‘core skills statement’, the module aims to facilitate the continued development of IT skills.
Outline content:
Not applicable.
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
• In the Autumn Term you are required to nominate one of the following modules: Equity and Trusts, Constitutional and Administrative Law, Land Law, Foundations of European Law, as the one in which you would like to undertake WCL2. Writing Credit titles may, at the discretion of the Head of School, also be offered in one or more part 2 optional modules. If too many students opt for a particular module, some students will be allocated to a different module.
• Each module will provide a choice of titles and a student may select a title on which to write his/her essay.
• WCL2 must be submitted by the required date, which will be specified when the WCL2 titles are distributed.
• No assistance will be provided by any member of staff with respect to WCL2. No drafts or plans of essays may be submitted to any member of staff.
• An essay submitted for WCL2 will be returned to the student in the Autumn Term of the third year.
• Students must be familiar with and comply with the Assessed Work Rules, as set out in the School Guide (Programme Assessment).
