Biomedical and Pharmaceutical

The theme in Biomedical and Pharmaceutical science has been set up to consolidate and expand research interests aimed at increasing our understanding of human biology in health and disease. Research at the University of Reading incorporates expertise in a wide range of disciplines in the areas of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical science. The aim of this theme is to develop these areas of strength and to enable collaborative and cross-disciplinary research.
The fields of biomedical and pharmaceutical science, which are largely interdependent, incorporate a very wide number of individual subject areas, which collectively have impact on health and quality of life. This research theme will concentrate on, and develop further, specific areas of research at which the University of Reading is at the forefront of developments. These areas of focus span the full scope of research from understanding the basic molecular mechanisms that control cellular and tissue functions in health and disease, infection and immunity, the design of molecules to treat disease, understanding of the mechanisms of their action, and the effects of drugs on psychological processes.
This theme is divided into several sub-themes that incorporate current areas of cross-disciplinary research spanning several schools.
